If you’d prefer air travel, a flight nanny carries the puppy in the cabin instead. What I won’t do, ever, is put a dog in a cargo hold.

Montana has no statewide breed ban and no preemption statute, so cities and counties decide. A large share of the state is unincorporated, where no municipal ordinance applies and the question becomes your insurer and any covenant on the land.
If you are inside a town, read that town’s code. It is a short call to the county office and worth making before a deposit rather than after.

Deep cold, long distances, and thin veterinary cover
Cold is the least of the worries with this breed. A Montana winter is comfortable for a bully in a heated vehicle and a well-insulated house, and the dry summers are far easier than the humid heat of the south east.
The real planning is distance. Montana towns are a long way apart and a long way from me, so a delivery is a genuine multi-day run and the weather decides the date from December through March. Find your nearest emergency veterinary clinic before the puppy arrives, because in parts of the state that is not a five minute drive.
