What makes a tri color American Bully tri color

The at allele at the A locus, which produces tan points on the cheeks, chest, legs and above the eyes, combined with white spotting from the S locus over any base color.

How to tell it’s genuinely tri color

Confused with tan point bicolor, which has the tan markings but not the white. A true tri needs all three: the base color, the tan points and white markings. Some listings count a small chest flash as the third color, which is generous rather than accurate.

What tri color costs, and what I charge

Between $2,000 and $5,000 depending on the base coat under it. The premium has softened as the pattern has become more widely produced, which is the usual arc for a fashionable coat.

Tri color is a pattern rather than a color, which is why it stacks on top of everything else: blue tri, chocolate tri, lilac tri. The tan-point gene was always present in the breed’s gene pool and was simply not selected for until recently, which is worth knowing when a listing describes it as rare. It became fashionable, then it became expensive, and the dogs didn’t change. Its health profile is entirely determined by the base coat it sits on.

Every puppy I sell is $700, tri color or otherwise, XL or pocket, male or female. Why the number is $700.

Health, specifically for this coat

None from the pattern itself. Risk depends entirely on the base color underneath it.
