I’m in Sedona, Arizona and I deliver to Florida. Florida is the most difficult environment I send a puppy into, and I’d rather set that out on the page than after you’ve paid.
The climate, honestly
Heat with high humidity, for eight or nine months a year in the south of the state, is precisely the combination a short muzzle can’t cope with. Panting only cools a dog when the surrounding air can absorb moisture, and in a Florida August it can’t.
It’s entirely doable and there are a great many bullies living well in Florida. It requires a household that has genuinely accepted an air-conditioned dog with early and late walks, and that knows what early heat stress looks like: heavy panting that doesn’t settle, a dark red tongue, unsteadiness.
The law, including the Miami-Dade history
Florida has preempted breed-specific local ordinances since 1990, with one exception: Miami-Dade was grandfathered in with a ban it already had, and it ran for more than three decades before being repealed. Given that history, a Miami buyer is right to confirm the current position with county animal services directly.
The other Florida constraint is condo and HOA density. Deed restrictions on weight and breed are common and are enforced by the association rather than the city, which means the state preemption doesn’t touch them. Check yours in writing before you commit.
