What makes a lilac merle American Bully lilac merle

Lilac with merle on top: b/b, d/d and a copy of M. Four separate genetic conditions have to align, which makes it about as uncommon as the breed gets.

How to tell it’s genuinely lilac merle

Confused with blue merle, and the mislabelling runs mostly in one direction: blue merles get advertised as lilac merle because lilac sells for more. Check the nose and the undertone. If there’s no brown warmth in the pigment, it’s a blue merle wearing a better price tag.

What lilac merle costs, and what I charge

The top of the American Bully market, frequently five figures. It’s also where you find the highest concentration of dogs bred merle-to-merle, because the payoff is largest.

Lilac merle is the most expensive coat in the American Bully and the one where the gap between price and substance is widest. Everything true of merle is true here, plus everything true of dilution. The double-merle question applies with full force, and the animals produced by chasing this particular coat are the ones most likely to have been bred merle-to-merle for the payoff. If I’ve a lilac merle standing, it’s $700, the same as every other puppy I sell.

Every puppy I sell is $700, lilac merle or otherwise, XL or pocket, male or female. Why the number is $700.

Health, specifically for this coat

Both. The dilution risk and the merle risk apply together, exactly as with blue merle.

Was the sire merle, and was the dam merle? One merle parent is fine. Two is what produces double merles, and you can’t tell from looking at the puppy. If a seller won’t answer plainly, that’s your answer.

Everything else is about the breed rather than the coat. The full picture, and how every coat compares.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, with the dates written down.
