People searching this usually want one of two different dogs. Here’s which one I actually sell.
I sell American Bullies, not American Pit Bull Terriers. They’re related breeds and they aren’t the same dog: the Bully is shorter, much more heavily built and calmer, developed from the 1980s onward specifically as a companion. If you want the athletic terrier, I’m the wrong seller and I’d rather say so.
Which one do you actually want?
The difference that will affect your life most is energy. An American Bully is content with two proper walks a day and then sleeps on the sofa. An American Pit Bull Terrier is a genuinely high-drive dog that needs real daily work and becomes a problem without it.
Most people searching "american bully pitbull" want the look with the moderate energy level, which is the Bully. Some want the terrier. Being honest with yourself about which is the most useful thing you can do here, because the mismatch is what fills shelters.
Why the terms get mixed up
"Pitbull" isn’t a breed in common use. It’s a category applied by appearance to several breeds and a lot of mixed dogs. Insurers, landlords and animal control generally use it to mean "looks like that", which is why an American Bully will usually be caught by a breed restriction regardless of being a separate breed.
That’s the practical consequence and it matters more than the terminology. Check your lease, HOA and insurer in writing before you commit.
