What Texas law actually says, how a puppy travels there from Arizona, and what it costs.
I’m not a Texas breeder. I’m in Sedona, Arizona, and I deliver to Texas. This page is about how to buy well in Texas whether or not that’s from me, because Texas has one of the largest bully markets in the country and a correspondingly large number of people reselling dogs they didn’t raise.
What Texas law says
Texas Health and Safety Code prohibits any municipality from regulating dogs in a breed-specific way. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin can’t ban the breed. The state’s dangerous dog framework applies to individual animals and their conduct.
The exception is privatised military base housing, which restricts by lease and is untouched by the statute. Texas has a lot of it.
Judging any breeder, in Texas or elsewhere
- Ask who examines the puppies. Mine are seen by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before they travel.
- Live video call with the puppy and the dam. Not photographs.
- Ask how many litters a year.
- Ask what happens if it doesn’t work out.
If a Texas breeder forty minutes from you answers all four, buy from them. Distance is a poor reason to rule out a good local breeder and I’ll say so.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
