The classic American Bully is the breed on a lighter frame: same height as a standard, less bulk, less exaggeration. It’s the closest of the four classes to the dogs the breed was built from, and it’s the least fashionable, which means it’s the cheapest for no good reason.

What makes a classic classic
Same height range as a standard, 17 to 20 inches for a male, but noticeably less body. Lighter bone, a narrower front, less width through the chest and a longer, more moderate muzzle. Where a standard is blocky, a classic is athletic.
Why I recommend it more often than people expect
It’s the easiest of the four to live with. Better heat tolerance, because the muzzle is less compressed. Fewer joint and skin issues, because there’s less mass and less wrinkle. More stamina, so it enjoys a proper walk rather than enduring one. It still looks unmistakably like a bully.
It’s also cheap, because the market currently pays for bulk. That’s a fashion, and fashion moves. The dog lives twelve years.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a bully that will hike, anyone in a hot climate, anyone who has read the health page and drawn the obvious conclusion. Also anyone who simply wants the most dog for the money, because classic is where that sits right now.
