How Much Do American Bullies Cost?
Not the purchase price. The twelve-year figure, which is the one worth being sure about before you commit.
Over a full life an American Bully costs roughly $15,000 to $25,000, of which the puppy is between three and fifteen percent. The first year runs $1,900 to $3,600 including the purchase. After that, expect $1,200 to $2,200 a year for a healthy dog, and more if it has the skin and allergy trouble this breed is prone to.

That last row is the one specific to this breed. Skin and allergy trouble is the most common health problem in American Bullies and it’s a lifelong management cost rather than a one-off. What it involves.
The costs people forget
- Boarding or a sitter. $40 to $80 a night, and some boarding kennels refuse the breed by policy. Check before you book a holiday, not after.
- Homeowner or renter insurance. Several major carriers still exclude pit bull type dogs by name. That can mean switching carrier, sometimes at a higher premium.
- An emergency. A serious one runs $2,000 to $8,000. Foreign body surgery, a torn cruciate, a bad heat stroke episode. Have a plan, whether that’s insurance or a fund.
- Senior care. Years nine onward bring joint support, more frequent visits and bloods.
The single largest lever on lifetime cost is keeping the dog lean. An overweight bully develops joint disease earlier, needs more veterinary care and lives a shorter life. It’s free to get right and expensive to get wrong. Why weight matters more than anything else.
Putting it in proportion
A person choosing between a $700 puppy and a $2,500 puppy is deciding about eight percent of the total. It’s worth far less attention than whether the household can carry $1,500 a year for twelve years, and whether somebody is home enough for a companion breed.
