What registration papers actually tell you, what they don’t, and why mine are priced the same either way.
Registration papers record a dog’s parentage. They aren’t a health certificate, not a quality assessment and not a guarantee of anything about the animal in front of you. A papered dog and an unpapered dog from the same litter are the same dog.
What papers do
They record who the parents were, with a registry. That’s genuinely useful if you intend to breed, to compete, or to trace a pedigree. For a pet, it’s a piece of paper about two dogs you’ll never meet.
What papers don’t do
- They don’t certify health. No registry examines a dog before issuing them.
- They don’t assess quality. A poorly built, badly tempered dog papers exactly as easily as a good one.
- They don’t verify anything. Registration is based on what the breeder submits.
- They don’t raise the dog. How a puppy was socialised between eight and sixteen weeks matters enormously more, and no registry records it.
Why people search for this
Usually because unpapered puppies are cheaper, and sometimes because a seller has quoted a premium for papers. Both are worth understanding: the paperwork costs the breeder very little, so a large premium for it’s a margin rather than a cost.
My position
Every puppy is $700 and the price doesn’t change based on paperwork. What I’ll always give you is the thing that actually matters and that no registry provides: a named veterinarian you can telephone, a written health record with real dates, a live look at the dam, and a dog I take back at any point in its life.

Every puppy, the same terms
$700 whatever the class and whatever the colour. Vet checked by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before travel, a written health record, enough food to change over gradually, and delivery to all fifty states that never involves a cargo hold.
I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
